Press body demands Abhishek Bachchan's arrest

New Delhi, April 16:

Delhi Journalists' Association (DJA) on Monday demanded
immediate arrest of Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and two others for allegedly manhandling two city-based photo journalists during a film shooting here.

In a statement here, DJA general secretary Ras Bihari alleged that Bachchan, executive producer Tanya and cameramam Sameer Arya allegedly abused and manhandled The Indian Express photographer Mustafa Qureshi and freelance lens man Umesh Puri during the shooting of "Bas itna sa khwab hai' on Sunday and damaged their cameras.

The immediate provocation for the attack was that Qureshi took some shots of Tanya allegedly beating some onlookers with a stick during the shooting, he alleged.

Charging the city police with "helping the culprits", Ras Bihari warned that journalists would be forced to take to the streets if Bachchan and other accused were not arrested.

Following the incident, Qureshi and Puri had lodged criminal complaints against Bachchan and his unit members at the Parliament street police station. (PTI)
